Emergency Medical Care
Public hospital systems provide care for individuals who are uninsured or underinsured. Non-citizens may access emergency medical care though fees may be billed in the future or in the country of residence. Emergency health insurance is made available by states to cover some costs.
Getting Health Insurance
Lawfully present individuals may access more affordable health insurance to help reduce medical costs. Learn more.
A total of 22 states have also extended coverage to pregnant people regardless of immigration status through the CHIP From-Conception-to-End-of-Pregnancy (FCEP) option.

Finding A Medical Provider
Go to your local health department or find a refugee healthcare provider to determine next steps concerning your medical care. Call your local community helpline to ask for language translation needs or health service questions. Each state has a different number. In Texas, Florida, Arizona, North Carolina, and others, it is 211. In Georgia, it is 988.
